At Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry, our dentists seek continuing education and maintain membership in professional organizations so that they can continue to provide the highest level of care. Dr. Ariana Ebrahimian continues to show this commitment, as she recently was named President of the North American Association of Facial Orthotropics and had a case report published in the Journal of Gnathologic Orthopedics and Facial Orthotropics.
In addition to receiving her dental degree at the University of Pacific and receiving post-graduate training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, Dr. Ebrahimian was introduced to the method of Orthotropics®, which is a specific type of facial growth guidance and preservation of airway space for children. The philosophy is based upon the idea that how a child postures her mouth influences the facial growth pattern throughout her life.
Dr. Ariana first began receiving instruction in the field of Orthotropics® fresh out of dental school, when she and her father, Dr. Max Ebrahimian, attended a mini-residency with Dr. Bill Hang. Dr. Hang and Dr. John Mew are considered the two leading experts in the world in the entire field of Orthotropics®.
Dr. Ariana’s case report examined the treatment of a 10-year-old female who was born micro-premature and was fed via syringe for the first eight weeks of her life. As a result, she had altered oral posture and under-developed jaws. The orthodontic opinion she had previously received was to push the upper jaw even further back.
Through Orthotropics®, Dr. Ariana was able to improve both the form and function of the orofacial system for the young patient as she prepared to enter her teen years.
“I was hesitant to present Orthotropics®, knowing what was required to have a successful outcome,” Dr. Ariana wrote in the case report. “She would likely be in treatment into her pre-teen and possibly teen years when social pressures are increase[d] and motivation might wane. … I am so pleased with the results we were able to achieve, as is the patient and her family. Perhaps even more rewarding has been watching the personal transformation of the patient as she has blossomed into a beautiful, confident young woman.
“If I could change anything, I only wish I had the opportunity to start treatment earlier so that the challenges of managing a rapidly changing dentition could be avoided.”
Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry is proud to be one of the select few practices in the entire state of California that offers treatment in the specialized field of orthotropics. Our use of Orthotropics® is part of our greater commitment to functional orthodontics, which seeks not only to straighten teeth but also achieve greater goals such as open airways and a balanced facial profile, while also protecting the health and function of the jaw joints.
