Are you looking into orthodontic treatment for your child? Perhaps you were not able to receive treatment as an adolescent, or you did straighten your teeth when you were younger, only to experience orthodontic relapse. Whatever the circumstance, Invisalign® provides an exciting and increasingly popular alternative to straighten your teeth. Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry is excited to provide this type of orthodontic treatment to patients just like you in Santa Cruz, Los Gatos and Scotts Valley in the Central Coast region of California. To find out more about this method of treatment, we provide these important facts for would-be Invisalign® wearers.

Fact 1: Invisalign® straightens teeth just as effectively as braces

Whereas braces use brackets and wires to guide teeth into their preferred alignment, Invisalign® is a form of plastic aligner therapy. You receive a set of aligners that are customized to fit snugly over your teeth. These aligners apply gentle pressure to guide and realign teeth. You return to your Invisalign® provider every few weeks to receive a new set of aligners and continue to do so over the course of treatment, however long it lasts.

Fact 2: The aligners are removable

You can remove your aligners when you eat, brush and floss, or plan to have photos taken. However, for Invisalign® to work, you should wear the aligners for at least 20 hours per day. Now for the good news: because the aligners are made of a transparent plastic, they are almost undetectable in your mouth because they are clear.

Fact 3: Invisalign® often works more quickly than braces

Treatment time varies on a case-by-case basis. However, for adults, the total time of treatment takes approximately 18 months. This is shorter than braces, which often involve a treatment time of two or more years.

Fact 4: You can receive Invisalign® even if you had prior orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic relapse occurs when someone receives treatment, but then their teeth shift back to their original alignment, or somewhere off of the alignment they had once they completed the initial course of treatment. Certain research studies have found that a high percentage of braces patients experience some form of relapse. If you’ve already undergone orthodontic treatment, you remain a candidate for Invisalign®.

Fact 5: Invisalign can be combined with other cosmetic dental treatments

It sure can. In fact, many patients choose Invisalign® as part of a smile makeover. This is an individualized treatment plan that combines multiple cosmetic procedures to achieve the specific aesthetic goals of a patient.
