COVID-19 had a huge impact on every aspect of our society. It’s changed the way we work, go to school, and socialize. People are thinking about their health and wellness more than ever before, but in 2020, dentists saw an approximate 30 percent drop in the total number of appointments. The fact is that your overall health is going to suffer if your oral health is poor. Even during this pandemic, Dr. Max and Dr. Ariana at Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry are here to help. That’s why we want to explain why it’s still safe to visit our office, even during the pandemic.

How We’re Keeping You Safe During COVID-19

Even before the pandemic, Ebrahimian Integrative Dentistry followed certain infection control protocols, with the goal of making dental care safe for our patients as well as our staff. Today, we adhere to all infection control recommendations from the American Dental Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Here’s what you can expect when you arrive at our Scotts Valley office for an appointment:

  • You will be asked pre-screening questions, both on the phone prior to your appointment and before you arrive.
  • We ask you to wait in your car outside our office and call or text us to let us know you have arrived.
  • We ask patients to have anyone accompanying them remain outside; for young children, we request only one parent come inside with them.
  • Please wear a mask in our office at all times, until a member of our staff asks you to remove it. There is a hand sanitizer station at the door that we request patients to use upon both entering and leaving our facility.
  • We also have staggered appointment times to encourage social distancing and use new equipment to help clean and sanitize our patient areas.

You can’t afford to neglect your dental health, even during a pandemic

When it comes to oral care, prevention remains your best defense. You need to maintain your daily brushing and flossing, but even the most diligent regimen of at-home dental hygiene will only do so much. You also need to keep seeing your dentist every six months for a check-up—yes, even as our society continues to fight COVID-19. Your dentist uses these regular appointments to monitor changes in your oral health, and the professional dental cleanings help lower your risk of tooth decay, as even the most thorough brusher has certain spots in the mouth that cannot be reached.

Skipping preventive dental care could cause your oral health to suffer and lead to gum disease, an infection responsible for tooth loss. Gum disease also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and dementia. While brushing and flossing at home is crucial to prevent gum disease, so are preventive care appointments at your Scotts Valley general dentist’s office.

Oral health issues can develop at any time, not just when they’re convenient. If you have a cavity form, early treatment is crucial to prevent the area of decay from becoming larger, potentially threatening the stability of the tooth or causing a dangerous infection. Jaw issues, if allowed to linger, can lead to a serious and painful case of temporomandibular joint disorder.
